David Bruce Smith’s Grateful American™ Foundation is dedicated to restoring enthusiasm in American history for kids, and adults.
“You have to know where you came from to know where you are going,” insists Smith, a Washington, DC-based author and publisher who recently penned “American Hero: John Marshall, Chief Justice of the United States.”
To help ensure that more kids, and their families, have a handle on how and why the nation was formed, he’s created a multimedia project that launched on President’s Day 2014.
“The mission of the Grateful American™ Foundation website — GratefulAmericanFoundation.com, — is to provide insight into the history of the first 100 years of the United States, and increase interest in the people and events that helped establish the country,” explains the organization’s executive producer, Hope Katz Gibbs, who is also the founder and president of Inkandescent Public Relations, based in Richmond, VA.
Gibbs choreographed and curates the site, which features a monthly cover story that focuses on one of the nation’s founding fathers and mothers, an original educational video on GratefuAmericanTV, as well as a Today in History fact, Words of Wisdom from the founders, a calendar of events happening at the nation’s most popular history and presidential homes, and more.
On July 4, 2016, Smith and Gibbs will launch Grateful American™ Kids — a new website for kids, by kids that will enable them to teach each other about American history.
“The videos on this site will star students from schools around the country, a cover story by kids, great children’s history book, recipes from the Colonial era, plus art and essays by students — and more,” explains Gibbs.
Among the videos being recorded is “Grateful American™ Kids Rock,” music video, which students at the Steward School will be starring in. This note requests your permission to allow your student to participate in the video shoot.
- On May 19, from 1:30-3, students will rehearse the music video song, and be fitted for costumes.
- On May 26, from 12:30-3 we’ll have a dress rehearsal
- On May 31, from 9-3, we’ll shoot the video
