Who doesn’t want to feel better and live a healthier life?
Since our September 2013 issue focuses on Educating Entrepreneurs, we couldn’t think of a better time to share some wonderful Healthy Living news about the simple but profound wonders of the Mediterranean Diet.
According to researchers in Spain, 30 percent of heart attacks, strokes, and deaths from heart disease can be prevented in people at high risk if they switch to a Mediterranean diet rich in olive oil, nuts, beans, fish, fruits, and vegetables—and even drink wine with meals.
Published in the April 2013 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine, the findings were based on the first major clinical trial to measure the diet’s effect on heart risks.
The diet decidedly helped those following it—even though they did not lose weight and most of them were already taking statins, or blood pressure or diabetes drugs to lower their risk of heart disease.
In fact, the study ended after just five years because the results were so clear—the researchers believed it would be unethical to continue.
